Chess like everything else, is a story.

For Justine, chess has become its own theater of possibilities.

As a filmmaker, she continues this quest to find ways to express life dilemmas that have not yet been examined on screen.

It is in the Castle where the rules of the world are drawn.

To every action an equal and opposite reaction,

and to every law, a rule breaker.

The Castle forms a shadow over the kingdom.

Some look fierce, but are mild.

Some seem timid, but are vicious.

Look beyond appearances and

position yourself for the advantage.

Will you knock down these walls or enter them?

The Chess Shop and Forum in New York City was an escape spot in Greenwich Village open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. One could wander in at 2 AM and play all the neighborhood regulars.

There were all the chess hustlers from Washington Square Park like "Brooklyn Jerry", or her favorite, “Raheem the Dream” a humorous Moroccan man from Casablanca. There was "Russian Paul", the chain-smoking unbeatable chess master who always tried to hide a smile. Grandmaster Carlos, once defected from Cuba, would play her two games at a time while blindfolded and Tyreek, a Vietnam war Veteran watched on. Of course Coach Murod a dreamy competitive coach from Uzbekistan would bring Sufi poetry and translate from Farsi over chess and endless coffee...

It was all hours and hours of slick jargon and smooth talking, the consequence of which, was that Justine's chess game got strong. "The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried."

Fast forward to Los Angeles where Justine joined the United States Chess Federation and played in rated tournaments. She became a chess instructor at the Los Angeles Chess Club teaching game theory, tactics and strategy to all ages and Chess Tutors Company where she taught chess to hundreds of students in a handful of school programs. Justine even created a Film Noir Chess Night"at the SoHo House Los Angeles called "The Ciao Bella Chess Club".

Chess is time and space, a mirror of duality, a vibration of consciousness, a dialectic of rebellion  the spawning of fire, a quandary, a question, 1,000 answers, 1 million paths to take.

Chess is a test, ephemeral, a conversation with fate, time and space, it is a pause and reaction and every thought in between.

All or nothing.

Play to Win.

"Chess holds its master in its own bonds, shackling the mind and brain so that the inner freedom of the very strongest must suffer."

- Albert Einstein
